What Color Is Sherwin Williams Snowbound?

Is Snowbound A Warm Or Cool White?

This one’s tricky. At first sight, Snowbound appears warm, but upon closer inspection in various rooms, its true tones reveal themselves as cool rather than warm. This is due to the presence of gray undertones within the paint.

You should always try a sample in your space before buying a gallon! I did not when first moving into our home 3 years ago. Going into it I knew I wanted something close to Alabaster but wanted to try a new color.

I chose Snowbound thinking it was on the warmer side, but in reality to me it looks a lot cooler than Alabaster ever did in our last home! You can see a comparison of the two colors in the pictures below, Alabaster in our Texas home and Snowbound in our Ohio home!

Sherwin Williams Snowbound Undertones

Snowbound is very unique when it comes to being a white color. Because Snowbound has a lower LRV on the white scale, it picks up a slightly taupe undertone (purple-pink). Which then makes contrasting trim like Accessible Beige a great color to pair it with!

Another undertone people will see is grey, and this all comes down to lighting and the things you have surrounding the color.

LVR Of Snowbound

When it comes to the LRV (light reflective value) of Snowbound you are looking at 83, and Alabasters LRV is 82! LRV is to predict how light or dark a color will appear. The closer the paint color is to 0 it won’t reflect much light. And when you get closer to 100 the paint color will reflect more light.

To learn more about LRV I have broken down the true meaning and how it can affect your choice of paint color for your space in my latest article HERE!

Trim Color That Goes Well With SW Snowbound

Two of my favorite trim colors to go with Snowbound is Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams and Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

I love the warmth that the Accessible Beige has against Snowbound in our loft/hallway. And the depth and contrast that Revere Pewter has with Snowbound might just be one of my favorites!

Final Thoughts On SW Snowbound

What do you think? I love Snowbound and I’m so glad that I chose it for our home. I think it’s a great white that is right in the middle of cool and warm. If you want it to show more warmth, adding wood tones and contrasting trim can be done easily!

If you want more of the cooler tones to come out, you can also do that by adding blues and darker tones to your space.

I hope this article helped you in making a decision on whether this color is right for you. I always suggest trying out a sample in your space using Samplize for convince, just to make sure your lighting is right and the color makes you happy!
